I know many attackers great at 1v1, but don't position themselves in games enough to get 1v1s or be successful at them. When it comes to being successful at 1v1s, positioning off the ball is as important as 1v1 ability. If you're a CB, hopefully you won't need to take a player on often but you'll need this skill in some way when dealing with a press, if you're a striker/winger hopefully you'll be able to get yourself many 1v1 moments with an opposing defender. My opinion: 1v1 ability is important no matter the position (little less so of course for GK). Gotta say though, for the first time a few weeks ago I had a game where I was dribbling again. Perhaps also recruit a friend to practice with, so you're actually dribbling past someone instead of just working on skills in isolation. Remember that it's for fun and enjoy yourself. Complete tasks in real life that you have been putting off (not necessarily football related) to give you a more relaxed mindset when coming into a game. I don't really have a solution for this except build up your confidence in other ways. All these factors can affect your judgement and perhaps inhibit your natural tendency to express yourself. There's also the mental pressure of "doing the right thing" so your teammates think better of you. You can pass the ball and play conservatively. In a game there's a million other options. When you're practicing on your own it's only you and the ball so you can focus on developing those dribbling skills. Although things like mobility, agility and balance could all be improved. I don't think practice is what's going to help me because technically I'm still good. Went through a bunch of injuries that really hit my confidence and when I came back I just don't have same thought process that I used to. Didn't play at any great level but I remember my friends used to call me things like Maradona etc. I used to dribble all the time when I was younger. if you're playing a team that employs a high press and you find yourself behind your halfway line and you see no passing options and the defender is coming, it might just be better to hoof the ball upfield. you should only try something if no one is open and you are in an advanced position. the goal is to keep your team in possession of the ball as much as possible. Or if you catch someone flat footed you can use a burst of speed to dink the ball to the side and beat him.Įdit 2: to be clear, i'm saying you shouldn't focus on skill moves if you're just playing for fun. for example if a defender is sprinting towards you, you can usually use his momentum against him and get away. instead learn to read which situations you can use a simple drop of the shoulder. I'm terrible at skill moves, in fact i'd never even attempt them in game. there is no secret to being good, it takes hard work and dedication which it sounds like you don't have time for. set up a cone and run up to it then practice your skill moves.

If you're really set on being a tricky player the best advice would be to practice practice practice.

#ADVANCED SOCCER MOVES HOW TO#

learning how to keep the ball under pressure by using your body is more important IMO. I don't have any skill moves either (not that i consider myself a good footballer). skill moves should be instinctual and if they aren't for you, then don't force it. Stop, find the open man, and pass the ball! losing the ball is worse for your team unless you are a winger and if you are a winger you should change your position cause its pretty much the only position where use of "skill moves" is not endangering your team.Įdit: also watch the pro's.they rarely use skill moves.
